Want to entertain your friends and family? Join the Youth Beginner Recorder Ensemble! Students will learn to read music and the basic techniques required to play the recorder. Recorders will be provided. (ages 9-11)

Students who sign up for this are committing to 4-week lessons, every Friday at 3:30 pm, ending with a concert for family and friends on Friday, October 30.

The Little Grassy Get Down isn't just a music festival — it's the fall getaway you didn't know you needed. Set on Little Grassy Lake at SIU's Touch of Nature, this three-day celebration features Americana and bluegrass music plus guided bike rides, adventure activities, kids yoga, and more, included in your pass. New this year: Weekend Pass holders can arrive Thursday night and kick things off at a pre-festival party at Hangar 9. Families, music lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts all find their people here. Weekend Passes and lodging on sale now; kids 15 & under always free.

The Cape Riverfront Market takes place each Saturday morning through October from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 35 S. Spanish Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau.

Patrons of the farmers’ market can find a wide variety of vendors selling hot breakfast and lunch foods, farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, baked goods, jams, honey, flowers and plants, arts and crafts, and natural wellness products, all of which are locally grown, homemade, and handmade. Each week will feature live music, as well.

The Crisp Museum will host “Then & Now: Works by SEMO Alumni & Faculty” from September 4 through October 17.

This exhibition is a celebration of learning, collaboration, and the evolving relationship between teacher and artist. Professors engage with viewers and students alike, discussing techniques and inspiration, while students gain confidence seeing their creations displayed alongside those who have guided them.

**An opening reception will take place on Friday, September 4, from 4-8 p.m.

“Then & Now” will run from Friday, September 4, through Saturday, October 17, at the Crisp Museum on Southeast’s River Campus.

Perfect for curious minds of all ages—come learn, play, and be inspired. Join us in the program room! This special session will feature FREE book hand-outs, thanks to a generous Slice of Literacy Grant from the Pizza Hut Foundation! (ages 2-5)

Contra Dance to live music. No experience or partner is needed. All dances are taught and walked through. This dance is FREE to the public.

Join us Sunday, October 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Capaha Park, Shelter #1, for an afternoon with Will Westmoreland! Chicken dinners will be available for just $10. Come enjoy good food, good company, good music and great conversation!

Dances are taught and prompted to old-time music, sometimes live. Come early for extra instuction. Come with or without a partner. Children and families are welcome.
