The Jackson Municipal Band’s next concert will be July 9 with special guest An Enchanted Evening with "The Fairytale Essence."
The free concert will take place Thursday, July 9, at 7:00 p.m. at the Nick Leist Memorial Band Shell in Jackson city park. Be sure to bring your blankets or lawn chairs.
Directions: Entrance to the band shell parking lot is off of Route D across from McCombs Funeral Home.

The Stars and Stripes National Museum and Library is thrilled to announce a special evening of history, harmony, and community support. Join us on Friday, July 10, 2026, for "Preserving the Past, Rocking the Present," a unique fundraising concert held in the museum's air-conditioned WWII Room.
This unforgettable night celebrates our mission of preserving our nation's military journalism heritage while showcasing incredible regional talent. Guests will enjoy live music, complimentary refreshments, food for purchase, and full access to our museum galleries and historic exhibits throughout the evening.

The Cape Riverfront Market takes place each Saturday morning through October from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 35 S. Spanish Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau.
Patrons of the farmers’ market can find a wide variety of vendors selling hot breakfast and lunch foods, farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, baked goods, jams, honey, flowers and plants, arts and crafts, and natural wellness products, all of which are locally grown, homemade, and handmade. Each week will feature live music, as well.

Join Cape Girardeau County Archive Center director Marybeth Niederkorn, County History Center librarian Alice Ireland, and History Center director Carla Jordan for a FREE, interactive workshop on preserving and cataloging your family heirlooms, 10 AM to noon, Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the History Center Research Annex, 110 S. High Street in Jackson.
Topics covered will include an overview of preservation and organization best practices, tools of preservation, encapsulation, cataloging, digital tools, cleaning documents, and how to set collection goals and reach them on a budget. Attendees will have time at the end for a question and answer session.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required by contacting the History Center, 573-204-4240.

Dances are taught and prompted to old-time music, sometimes live. Come early for extra instuction. Come with or without a partner. Children and families are welcome. Age 8 and up can learn the dance easily. $5 contribution is requested for hall rental and musicians. Look on YouTube for Contra Dance, Cape Girardeau, MO to see a sampling of our dances.
The Cape Girardeau County Historical Society is sponsoring a book release for Beverly K. Hahs and her recent publication, “Footprints of a Community-Historical Stories of Jackson, Missouri and Surrounding Area.”
The History Center at 102 S High Street will host an open house on July 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. for members of the community to meet Beverly, purchase a book, and have your book personally autographed.
“Footprints of a Community” is a compilation of articles Beverly wrote for the Cash-Book Journal newspaper. Her many hours of research and writing have resulted in a great resource for anyone interested in the history of Jackson and the area around the county seat.

Build reading readiness and kindergarten readiness skills with our Preschool Storytime program! This fun and educational program features longer books that are accompanied by a variety of activities, including flannel boards, dramatics, and songs.

This program is designed for children and accompanying adults. Please plan to attend and be engaged with your child for this program. Drop-offs will not be permitted.
Join us for a fun Pokémon Battle Drop-In! Whether you're a seasoned Trainer or just starting out, come learn how to battle Pokémon using one of the library's decks or your own. Meet fellow fans, sharpen your skills, and enjoy friendly matches in a welcoming environment. All ages and experience levels are welcome—no registration required! (ages 6-11)
