The Southeast Wind Symphony will present ¡España! on October 6.

The program will celebrate the rhythm, color, and soul of Spain and include works by Luis Serrano Alarcón, Joaquín Turina, and Antón Alcalde.

¡España! will take place Monday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bedell Performance Hall. Tickets available online or at box office.

The Crisp Museum hosts Art for Adults each Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon.

Beginners learn to mix colors, arrange a palette, use and clean brushes correctly in a small group setting. Attendees may use the museum’s supplies or bring their own acrylics, oils, soft pastels, or watercolors. Mini lessons are taught by Ellen Flentge.

Art for Adults takes place Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Crisp Museum on Southeast’s River Campus. There is a small fee to attend.

The Crisp Museum will present Shutter and Sound: The Jazz Photography of Bob Willoughby from September 2 through October 19.

Willoughby photographed jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, and Louis Armstrong, among others. The exhibit features 50 images reflecting the dynamic jazz scene of the 1950s.

Shutter and Sound will be on display September 2 through October 19 at the Crisp Museum at SEMO’s River Campus.

**Opening Reception will take place on Friday, September 5, from 4-8 p.m.

The Cape Girardeau County Historical Society will welcome Joe Newberry in Concert on October 7.

An award-winning singer-songwriter, Joe Newberry was a frequent guest on “Prairie Home Companion,” has played the Grand Ole Opry, and is known for his clawhammer banjo playing and guitar.

The Joe Newberry concert will take place on Tuesday, October 7, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau County History Center at 102 S. High Street in Jackson. Refreshments will be served, and a suggested $20 donation will be accepted at the door.

The Department of Music at Southeast will present “I Will Sing” on October 9.

The first choral concert of the season will feature the University and Chamber Choirs in celebration of singing, community, and the impact of music on the world. Selections include Michael Englehardt’s “I Will Sing” and an arrangement of India Arie’s* “I Am Light” by Darita Seth.

The performance will take place Thursday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Bedell Performance Hall on Southeast’s River Campus.

The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance will present the Lanford Wilson Short Plays on October 9-11.

Each evening will feature the top ten short plays from the 2025 Lanford Wilson New American Play Festival, showcasing themes of life, love, coming-of-age, power, relationships, and human nature. Please note some plays feature mature content.

The Lanford Wilson Short Plays will take place from October 9-11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theater at the River Campus. Tickets are available online or at the River Campus Box Office.
