Join fellow American Mahjong enthusiasts for a fun and friendly game session! This event is for players who already know the rules and want to enjoy some lively rounds together. If you have your own mahjong set, please bring it along—our library has only two sets available. Feel free to bring your favorite snack or drink to enjoy while you play. No registration needed—just drop in and join the fun! (ages 18+)

Unleash your creativity by picking your favorite animal and designing a custom zoo enclosure using our provided materials! Your finished project will be showcased for a week and then become part of our Full STEAM Ahead program, where preschoolers can explore and play with your imaginative zoo exhibit. Join us for hands-on fun and help inspire the next generation of animal lovers and young engineers! (ages 6-11)

“Unearth the Sounds of Science” will demonstrate sound and energy with the “dinosaur-in-a-can” experiment, kid-created thunderstorm, and more. This program makes science come alive by involving the audience, explaining concepts on a level that many ages can understand, and sparking curiosity.

The Jackson Municipal Band’s season opening concert will be June 4 with special guest Devin C. Williams.
The free concert will take place Thursday, June 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Nick Leist Memorial Band Shell in Jackson city park. Be sure to bring your blankets or lawn chairs.
Directions: Entrance to the band shell parking lot is off of Route D across from McCombs Funeral Home.

Join SEMO Moms Demand Action at the Peace Park in downtown Cape Girardeau for Wear Orange 2026. The Mayor will present a Gun Violence Awareness Day Proclamation, a youth group will provide music, and the Be SMART for Kids program will distribute free gun locks. We are collecting new or gently used books for kids from pre-school to 8th grade for the Summer Reading Program at St. James AME Church. Join us for a day of fun to celebrate the beginning of the Summer season!
From 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. all four floors of the mill will be open for free self-guided tours. Self-guided tours of the first floor go until 4 p.m.
Large format checkers, four in a row, corn hole, and other classic board and lawn games will be setup inside the mill and covered bridge.
There will also be a full bubble station with bubble solution and wands to make giant bubbles in the day use area.
SEMO Inflatables will have inflatable bounce houses set up in the day use area. Fee for entrance into bounce houses.
SEMO Sno Cones and BBQ 2 the Rescue will be selling delicious snow cones, sodas and BBQ in the day use area.

Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri is hosting its 5th Annual Mississippi Mingle on June 6.
This family-friendly event will feature live music, barbecue and fish fry, food trucks, adult beverages, carnival games and kids activities. All proceeds will go toward the six community programs Catholic Charities delivers in 39 counties.
Mississippi Mingle will take place on Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 318 S. Spanish Street in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Tickets are $10 and include one drink ticket.
