Please join the Missouri State Genealogical Association, Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society, and Cape Girardeau County Archive Center for a workshop on using land records, from 10 AM to 2 PM Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington St., Jackson, Missouri.
Presented by Bill Eddleman, MoSGA & The State Historical Society of Missouri; Marybeth Niederkorn, Cape Girardeau County Archivist; and Drew Blattner, Cape Girardeau County Recorder and President of the Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society
Topics covered will include:• Intro to land record types• Metes and bounds survey system• Researching Missouri Spanish/French land grants• United States public land system• Using deeds to uncover relationships• Online research with land records
Participants will have the opportunity to apply learning using “hands-on” exercises. A laptop is recommended to get the most out of the sessions. Research time is available. Please come with questions and as much information as you have.

Cape Girardeau and Jackson have numerous hotels if you are coming from out of town and need to stay the night.
Fee to attend: $5 to cover cost of supplies.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a Riverfront Cleanup on November 8.
Community members of all ages are invited to lend a helping hand in keeping our river clean by picking up litter at Riverfront Park in Cape Girardeau. Free gloves, T-shirts, snacks, and drinks will be provided.
Riverfront Cleanup will take place on Saturday, November 8, from 2 to 3 p.m. in downtown Cape. Registered participants will meet at the Broadway entrance to Riverfront Park.

The Crisp Museum hosts Art for Adults each Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon.
Beginners learn to mix colors, arrange a palette, use and clean brushes correctly in a small group setting. Attendees may use the museum’s supplies or bring their own acrylics, oils, soft pastels, or watercolors. Mini lessons are taught by Ellen Flentge.
Art for Adults takes place Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Crisp Museum on Southeast’s River Campus. There is a small fee to attend.

Join local Turner Brigade volunteers as we honor our service veterans past and present Tuesday, November 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The original 1861 Woodruff cannon will be fired at 11 a.m. The stone building known as the blockhouse, with its interior displays, will be open for visitation.
Admission is free.
Southeast Missouri State University will host its 5th Annual Gathering of Remembrance on November 11.
The ceremony will honor and remember those who served our country in the United States Armed Forces, and commemorative bricks added to Veterans Plaza this year will be unveiled. Refreshments will be served following the event.
The Gathering of Remembrance will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, at Veterans Plaza, located between Academic and Memorial Halls on SEMO’s main campus. Limited seating is available. Please register by November 7.
