The Mercy Southeast Diabetes Support Group will host its “Step into a Healthier Tomorrow” foot care program on May 14.
Taking care of your feet is important, particularly for individuals with diabetes. Mercy Southeast registered dietitian Kay Litwicki will provide nutrition tips, and Dr. Greg Lifferth will offer information on daily foot care hygiene and more.
The foot care program will take place on Tuesday, May 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Healthpoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The program is free and open to the public.

Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri will host Mental Health: Let’s Taco Bout It on May 17.
The lunch and learn will include a presentation in observance of Mental Health Awareness Month and a free taco lunch, sponsored by Seis Express. The event is open to the public.
Mental Health: Let’s Taco Bout it will take place on Friday, May 17, from 12-1 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
The Missouri Department of Conservation will host Learn to Fish: Fly Fishing 101 on May 17.
Fly fishing enthusiast Michael Fiehler will lead this beginner’s hands-on program featuring basic casting techniques. No experience is required, and all equipment will be provided. The program will be held largely outdoors, so dress for the weather. The event is free and open to the public, age 12 and up. Registration is required.
Fly Fishing 101 will take place on Friday, May 17, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Nature Center.

Old Town Cape’s free concert series Tunes at Twilight returns for its spring series on May 17.The next performance will feature Alex Riffle and the Stiff Riffs. The group plays a blend of contemporary and traditional bluegrass. This will be their third return to Tunes and they are really looking forward to a hot performance and seeing old friends.
You can hear Alex Riffle and the Stiff Riffs at Tunes at Twilight at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at Ivers Square in downtown Cape Girardeau. Be sure to bring your blanket or lawn chair.
*In case of rainout, Tunes at Twilight will be held at Gospel Life Church at 817 Broadway.

The Cape Riverfront Market opening day will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2024, and will run every Saturday morning between May and October from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Cape Riverfront Market occupies the lot at 35 S. Spanish Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau. Patrons of the farmers’ market can expect to find a wide variety of vendors selling hot breakfast and lunch foods, farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, baked goods, jams, honey, flowers and plants, arts and crafts, and natural wellness products, all of which are locally grown, homemade, and handmade.
Returning this year, the Old Town Cape will host monthly themed market days starting on May 4 with a collaboration with the Muddy River Marathon at the Casino Parking lot (777 Main Street). All vendors will attend the first market so this is a great opportunity to see what you can expect all year long! Other event days include: Marketeers Day, OTC Birthday Party, Youth Entrepreneurship Day, Harvest Festival, and Oktoberfest. The Cape Riverfront Market will also continue with our weekly musical guest series kicking off on May 4.
Due to the increased interest in market, vendors we will be closing the section of Spanish Street every Saturday to allow for more vendors at the market. We will have many additional vendors! There will be a portion of the street dedicated to Grass Roots BMW Motorcycles on the end of Spanish St. closest to Merriwether St.
Visit Ste. Gen will host its annual Master Gardeners Garden Walk on May 18-19.
Held in the historic downtown district, community members are invited to tour the town’s public and private gardens and explore the plant sale amongst the blooming spring flowers.
The Garden Walk will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, in Historic Ste. Genevieve.
Tickets are $10 per person. Children 6 and under are free. Available on the day of the garden walk. VENMO accepted.

Join us for Kids Day at the Museum: Poppy History on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Be a part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Buddy Poppy, a symbol of remembrance for our fallen soldiers since the end of WWI. This event is open to the public and admission is FREE.
Activities will include storytelling, hands-on crafts, and games that delve into the history of the poppy. Let's unite to honor the sacrifices of our soldiers and create meaningful experiences for our children.

Mercy Hospital Southeast will present “Help Curb Inflammation with a Healthy Diet” at its next Healthy Cooking Class on May 20.
Healthy eating can play a role in managing inflammation. Registered dietitian and Nutritional Services Coordinator Laura Vollink will share about foods that fight inflammation, including fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, fatty fish, and even spices.
“Help Curb Inflammation with a Healthy Diet” will be held Monday, May 20, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the demonstration kitchen at Mercy Healthpoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. There is a small fee and registration is required.

The East Ozarks Audobon Society will host a special program about Lesser Yellowlegs at the Farmington Public Library on Tuesday, May 21.
The population of Lesser Yellowlegs, a shorebird, has declined 70% in the past 40 years. Kelly Srigley Werner and the Road to Recovery Initiative are working to reverse that trend.
Missouri’s bootheel region is an important refueling stop on the birds’ annual migration of 8,000 miles north in the spring and then 8,000 miles south as they return to their wintering grounds in the Caribbean.
Join us as we discover what the Road to Recovery Initiative is doing to engage conservation partnerships to help Lesser Yellowlegs thrive.

Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center will host a “Getting to the Heart of Stroke” lunch and learn on May 23.
The lunch and learn will include blood pressure checks, Stroke signs and symptoms educational takeaways, informational speakers, and lunch.
