A group of people in the Sikeston area wanted to get together and make music to share with their community and that gave birth to the Bootheel River Symphony. The community performance group is open to all instruments and participants from advanced middle school level and up.

Founded in 2000, the orchestra is comprised of area music educators, professional musicians, and talented high school and college students. This big band plays a wide variety of music, including jazz standards, Latin favorites, Rock' n Roll, and Pop Hits...something for all ages to enjoy. All proceeds from the concert will support performance opportunities for the Southeast Marching Band’s fall season.

Dr. Frank Nawrot, director of the program, recently discussed the opportunities available to students.

In this episode of Exposition, we speak with SEMO Professor Fred Jones and his wife, Shirlee Wilson, about their premiere feature film, 'Sugarhouse'. The film has been a labor of love for the two writers and directors, spanning an entire year of filming in Missouri. They premiere their independent film on June 28 at the Perry Park Center in Perryville, MO, at 7 pm, and on July 18 at Connection Point Church in Jackson, MO, at 7 pm.

Folk Fest kicks off Friday, June 6, at Ebb and Flow Fermentations and continues Saturday, June 7, at Port Cape. This free public event is brought to you by Southeast Missouri State University, the Center for Regional History, and MOCHE (Missouri Council for History Education). Folk Fest features historic talks and live acoustic musical performances by Jason Heeter, Steve Schaffner, the Jumper Cables, Snowbird Street Band, and Swamp Boys. All events are free and open to all ages.
