SEMO Women’s Basketball will host an Open Practice on August 12.
This free event will allow SEMO fans to catch a sneak peek of the upcoming season and meet the team. Donuts and coffee will be provided, and registration is required.

The United Way of Southeast Missouri will help area families get their children ready for the upcoming school year with its annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive on August 8.
Walmart stores in Cape Girardeau, Fredericktown, Jackson, Kennett, Malden, Perryville, Poplar Bluff, and Sikeston are partnering with the United Way, and school representatives will be on hand to encourage donations. Locations will have designated donation boxes and carts, and some locations will have buses parked in front to collect supplies.
“Stuff the Bus” will take place Saturday, August 8, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The Cape Riverfront Market takes place each Saturday morning through October from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 35 S. Spanish Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau.
Patrons of the farmers’ market can find a wide variety of vendors selling hot breakfast and lunch foods, farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, baked goods, jams, honey, flowers and plants, arts and crafts, and natural wellness products, all of which are locally grown, homemade, and handmade. Each week will feature live music, as well.

Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation will host a “Back to School Bash” on August 1.
This fun-filled event for Butler County students will offer free school supplies for Pre-K through Grade 12. The event will also feature a bounce house, yard games, foam party, water slide, food trucks, snow cones, and more.
The “Back to School Bash” will take place Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Whiteley Park in Poplar Bluff.
SEMO-Kennett will host a SEMO Summer Sendoff Small Business Celebration on Saturday, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to mark the end of summer, recognize small businesses and honor over 25 years of the SEMO-Kennett campus.
Enjoy lawn games, craft and food vendors. SEMO-Kennett will have an informational booth where attendees can meet the campus team, pick up an application, schedule a FAFSA appointment, or stop by for some SEMO swag. Shop small businesses, enjoy local refreshments and share your SEMO spirit at this free, family-friendly, fun-filled event. The sendoff will be in the SEMO-Kennett campus parking lot at 1230 First Street in Kennett, Missouri 63857. All are welcome!

The Jackson Municipal Band’s next concert will be August 6 with special guest Doug Rees.
The free concert will take place Thursday, August 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Nick Leist Memorial Band Shell in Jackson city park. Be sure to bring your blankets or lawn chairs.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will host its Nature Center at Night - Wild Edibles Ice Cream Social on August 7.
Cool off with a scoop of summer fun while learning how nature can add delicious flavors and colorful toppings to your favorite frozen treat. The event will feature a naturalist-led presentation on safe and common wild edibles, followed by samples at the MDC ice cream parlor.
The Nature Center at Night - Ice Cream Social will take place on Friday, August 7, at the Cape Girardeau Nature Center with presentations at 5 and 6 p.m. The nature center building and exhibits will be open until 7:30 p.m.
Visit Ste. Gen will host the 58th annual Jour de Fete festival on August 8-9.
The free, family-friendly event will feature over 200 artisan and crafts booths, plus hands-on exhibits, a variety of food vendors, live entertainment, car show, living history demonstrations, street performers, and more set in the unique and historic surroundings of Ste. Genevieve.
Jour de Fete will take place from 10 to 6 on Saturday, August 8, and 9 to 4 on Sunday, August 9, in Historic Downtown Ste. Genevieve.

Dances are taught and prompted to old-time music, sometimes live. Come early for extra instuction. Come with or without a partner. Children and families are welcome.
