The Crisp Museum on SEMO's River Campus will hold its annual Halloween Scavenger Hunt during the month of October. Stop by the museum to look for "Scooby-Doo" items throughout the exhibits. Enter with your contact information and the number of "Scooby-Doo" items you spotted. The winner will receive all the candy inside the Crisp Cauldron. A winner will be drawn on October 31 at 4 p.m. The winner does not need to be present to win.

Join us for Toddler Time—an interactive storytime designed to spark your child’s love of books and language! Through lively stories, catchy songs, and playful activities, toddlers will explore the joy of reading while building essential early literacy skills. Parents and caregivers will also discover creative ways to support their child’s learning journey at home. Come share the fun and watch your little one’s imagination grow! (ages 1-2)

Join fellow American Mahjong enthusiasts for a fun and friendly game session! This event is for players who already know the rules and want to enjoy some lively rounds together. If you have your own mahjong set, please bring it along—our library has only two sets available. Feel free to bring your favorite snack or drink to enjoy while you play. No registration needed—just drop in and join the fun! (ages 18+)

Join us for our first Illustrated Story Society book club meeting! Explore the world of graphic novels and comics for older readers.

Our first meeting with discuss "The Summer Hikaru Died" by Mokumokuren—it's a blend of horror, mystery, and romance (?), perfect for the spooky season. Haven't read it yet? Read for free through ComicsPlus. (ages 18+)

Want to entertain your friends and family? Join the Youth Beginner Recorder Ensemble! Students will learn to read music and the basic techniques required to play the recorder. Recorders will be provided. (ages 9-11)

Students who sign up for this are committing to 4-week lessons, every Friday at 3:30 pm, ending with a concert for family and friends on Friday, October 30.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will host Birding by Season: Fall on October 23.

Fall is in full swing and migratory birds are making their yearly appearances. Trail of Tears State Park offers many opportunities to spot these birds. Participants will shuttle from the Nature Center to the park to search for birds at stationary points and on a short hike. No prior birding knowledge or experience is necessary, and hiking conditions will be easy to moderate. Closed toe shoes and long pants are recommended.

Birding by Season: Fall will take place on Friday, October 23, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Nature Center.

On the 4th Friday of every month from April through October, the art galleries and artists' studios in downtown Ste Genevieve open their doors to the public from 6 to 9 pm.

Come stroll from gallery to studio through quaint historic downtown Ste Gen. You will also find food, shopping and live music.

This is a family friendly and free event.

The City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation will host its annual Halloween Hoopla on October 23.

Spooktacular activities will include pumpkin decorating, pumpkin bowling, trick or treat bags, and a costume contest for kids ages 12 and under. Costume categories will include best costume, creepiest costume, and funniest costume.

Halloween Hoopla will take place Friday, October 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Shawnee Park Center in Cape Girardeau. No registration is required, and there is a small fee to attend.

The Southeast Missouri State University Symphony Orchestra opens its season with three pillars of the Romantic orchestral repertoire.

Pianist Alexandra Joan joins the orchestra for Franz Liszt's L'italiana in Algeri and Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 7 in D minor.

Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.
