February is American Heart Month, making it the perfect time to get a free heart screening at Saint Francis Healthcare. The free Heart & Health Screenings are offered every Wednesday in February. Normally, heart health screenings are $30. Space is limited so call 573-331-3996 to register. The screenings are located at the Saint Francis Medical Center Health and Wellness Conference Center at 150 S. Mount Auburn Road (Entrance 8) on Feb. 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 7-10 a.m. Heart & Health Screenings require a 10- to 12-hour fast beforehand. During the fast, drink plenty of water and continue taking prescription medications (with water only). “It’s important to screen for heart conditions because most of these conditions do not cause any symptoms,” said Joshua Donis, MD, FACC with Cape Cardiology Group. “People may not realize their health is at risk.” The free Heart & Health Screenings include a total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cardiac risk ratio, glucose and blood pressure check. According to the American Heart Association® and the American Stroke AssociationSM, cardiovascular disease is the underlying cause of death in one of every three deaths in the United States. Monitor your risk for coronary heart disease and other health risks through the Heart & Health Screenings provided by Saint Francis.
