Various student organizations at Southeast joined in efforts to recognize 'Denim Day'— an international education campaign for sexual assault awareness, originating in Italy. In addition to 'Denim Day'-specific activities, Southeast’s event also served as a general sexual assault awareness and education day, ending with a 'unity walk' across campus in solidarity with survivors.

Items voted on during the Feb. 25th meeting, included changes to the FY23 room and board rates, the addition of majors to Southeast, the renaming of certain academic programs on campus, as well as the naming of John E. Mehner as the Assistant Vice President for the Office of Economic and Workforce Development.

The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance recently detailed their efforts to provide assistance to Hayti and Defiance in the aftermath of the recent tornado. The Department plans to send consumer insurance specialists from the DCI to Multi-Agency Resource Centers (MARC) in the two towns.

The Cape Girardeau Managed Deer Hunt came to a close. A recent press release from the City of Cape touched on the hunt’s completion of its original goals. The hunt lasted five weeks, and there were a total of 13 deer harvested out of different zones.

On November 19th, Cape Girardeau’s newest riverfront mural was officially presented to the public. Coming just in time for the holidays, the new mural can be seen by drivers and riverboats alike bearing the greeting “Welcome to Cape Girardeau, Missouri.”

United Way of Southeast Missouri held a community conversation at the One City building last week. KRCU attended the meeting which discussed many community-level issues centering around Health, Education, and Business.

MSHSAA’s Girls Volleyball State Championships are taking place this weekend from Nov. 4 through Nov. 6 at Cape Girardeau’s Show-Me-Center. While the event has been held at the Show-Me-Center for the last few years, this is the first time it's been here since the outbreak of COVID-19.

Special elections were held on Nov. 2nd in various counties in Missouri, regarding the issue of an internet sales use tax. The new tax comes in wake of the federal Wayfair decision that requires retailers to collect the same tax for online sales as if purchases were made locally.
