Southeast Missouri State University to Host MO8 Debate

Southeast Missouri State University will host a debate Tuesday May 28th for the open congressional seat in Missouri's eighth district.

The 90 minute event will be co-sponsored by KFVS 12 News and the Southeast Missourian. Both will present live broadcasts beginning at six thirty p.m.

The candidates running for the seat vacated by Jo Ann Emerson are Republican Jason Smith, Democrat Steve Hodges, Libertarian Bill Slantz, and Doug Enyart of the Constitutional Party. All four candidates are scheduled to attend.

Panelists for the evening will include Jeff Cunningham of KFVS12 and Bob Miller of the Southeast Missourian. KRCU’s Thomas Harteplans to moderate.

The debate will be held in the Shuck Music Recital Hall at the University's River Campus.

Candidates will have a chance to participate in two other debates before the June 4th election. KRCU and the League of Women Voters will sponsor a debate April 25th, and the Cape Girardeau County Tea Party will hold a forum at the Cape Girardeau Public Library on May 26 at 6:30 p.m.
