Public Forum Scheduled for the MO 8th Special Election

govtrack.us

Candidates vying for the Eighth Missouri Congressional District seat in the U.S. House will have a chance to answer voter questions in the coming months.

The Cape Girardeau County Tea Party will host a sequester-type forum allowing candidates to  answer identical questions at separate times. The forum will be held at the Cape Girardeau Public Library  on May 26 at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and will allow voters to clarify any questions or concerns according to Tea Party chair Brian Bollmann.

“Well we hope to ask questions that will allow folks to better inform their vote and make some distinctions between the candidates,” Bollmann said. “I believe the three candidates we have so far all consider themselves conservative. And we’ll try to have some questions that will allow them to define that a little better and give some more information to the voters.”

Confirmed candidates include Republican Jason Smith, Libertarian Bill Slantz, and Constitution Party-elect Doug Enyart. Democrat Steve Hodges could not be reached for comment.

Candidate filing will end March 30th, and voting takes place June 4th.
