Last Month the Missouri House of Representatives gave the final approval to Senate Bill 189, a companion bill which allows for the production of a specialty plate with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum logo in the center. The bill was introduced by Senator Barbara Washington.

Upon making a $10 contribution to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, a vehicle owner may apply for the plates. Applicants shall also pay a $15 fee in addition to regular registration fees, but no additional fee shall be charged for the personalization of the plates.

“Our intention wasn’t just to make another specialty plate. We believe that this bill truly will create more awareness throughout the state about this jewel of a museum that we have,” said Representative Mark Sharp.

The bill was passed unanimously, and on May 21st, Gov. Mike Parson’s Office announced that a ceremonial signing would be held on Saturday, May 22 at Kauffman Stadium.

The signing will take place on the field at 2:30 to 3:10 p.m. prior to the Kansas City Royals vs Detroit Tigers game.

Gov. Parson will also throw the ceremonial first pitch at the start of the game.

The law pertaining to the Negro Baseball Leagues specialty plate will go into effect August 28.
