Authorities Release Name Of Woman Found In Burning Car

KFVS12

The DNA test commissioned for the remains of a Scott City woman found in a burning car has produced results, and the identity of the woman has been released.

Scott County Coroner Scott Amick confirmed that the victim in the car was 48-year-old Cynthia Canoy. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Canoy, and her son, Neil HowlandJr.

Canoy was found in a burning car last week. Her remains were very damaged, and could not be identified by eyesight or by dental records. As a result, the Scott County Sheriff's office commissioned a DNA test. The test compared the DNA from the body with DNA from family members of the victim.

The Scott County Signal reported that Howland allegedly threatened Cynthia and Jerry Canoy with a machete in May. He has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and assault in the third degree. He is currently in the Scott County Jail.

No charges have been filed against any suspects in regards to the homicide of Cynthia Canoy as of Wednesday afternoon.
