Authorities Not Ready To Release Identity Of Woman Found In Burning Car

KFVS12

Scott County authorities believe they know the identity of a woman who was found in a burning car last week, but are not quite ready to release her name to the public. Her death is currently being investigated as a homicide.

The victim was very badly burned and as a result, she had to be identified by DNA testing. Scott County Coroner Scott Amick said that they are waiting for the results of the test, which should be in this week. When the authorities receive the results of the test and confirm the victim's identity, they will release the information to the public.

Because of the damage done by the fire, cause of death has not yet been determined. However, authorities have discovered that the woman was dead before the fire began.

The victim was found when a local saw the burning car. The car was in a cornfield near County Road 323, and a citizen reported the fire to the sheriff's department.

Some news reports have stated that the woman's body was dismembered, but Coroner Scott Amick wished to specify that she was in fact only badly burned.
