Looking to compete against other chess players? Join our Chess Club, a great way to learn strategy, connect with others, and enjoy chess! This club is designed for adults who are interested in or have experience playing chess. Chess Club is held in the Genealogy Room in Adult Services. (Ages 18+)

Registration is required.

Toddler Time is an interactive storytime that introduces toddlers to books, reading, and the love of language through stories, songs, and activities. Parents can discover fun ways to build the early literacy skills children need to learn to read! (ages 1-2)

Join CGPL's very first Youth Boomwhacker Choir! Participants will learn the basics of playing this simple instrument, culminating in a concert for friends and family at the end of the month! By registering, you are committing to a month of weekly practices, ending with a concert.

Did you know contributing to Alzheimer’s research is as easy as playing a game?

In this hands-on event, we will connect virtually with participants around the country and the real scientists behind Stall Catchers.

After hearing from the research team and learning how to play, you will log in to participate in Stall Catchers, a game-like process that helps identify blood clots in images to advance Alzheimer’s research. Every image you review helps researchers analyze data faster and move research forward! Library staff will be on hand for assistance.

No experience or special equipment is required. A limited number of laptops will be available for use. Participants are encouraged to bring a Wi-Fi connected laptop from home. Recommended for ages 16+.

This event is part of the Acts of Science: Connected signature series for Citizen Science Month 2026 and will count towards the 250 million Acts of Science goal. During the event, we'll learn about the project, hear from the project scientist, and do the project together. Your questions will be answered in real-time, too!

Southeast Choirs will present “Heart and Soul” on April 16.

The last choral concert of the season will feature the University Choir, Chamber Choir, and Choral Union for an exploration of love and the human condition. The choirs will perform separately and join forces for a culmination sure to dazzle. Eric Barnum’s Afternoon on a Hill, an arrangement of You Are the New Day by Jake Narverud, and Moses Hogan’s epic Hold On! will be featured.

The performance will take place Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Bedell Performance Hall on Southeast’s River Campus.

Local volunteers will participate in American Battlefield Park Day and Friends of the Parks Day at Fort D Historic Site in Cape Girardeau, MO, Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be a clean-up day at Fort D as well as a Spring Drill for members of the Turner Brigade. The stone building known as the blockhouse will be open for visitors. Admission is free.

Drop-in and meet talented quilt makers from our community and explore this art form with the Jackson Scrappers Quilt Guild. Whether you’re just curious or want to learn more about all the beautiful displays on the library’s wall, this relaxed, interactive event is perfect for all experience levels.

The Holland College of Arts and Media will present “Broadway Bound” on April 18.

This event, hosted by alums Matthew Buttrey and Audrey Stanfield, will celebrate graduating seniors in the Musical Theater, Acting, and Design and Technology BFA programs as they prepare to showcase their work in New York City. Proceeds will help launch these artists from conservatory training to the professional stage.

“Broadway Bound” will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus.

Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
