The Cape Girardeau Police Department will present “She’s Ready” Empowerment and Safety Event on August 7.
This free event for young women entering college will feature hands-on learning and cover topics such as Situational Awareness, Alcohol Awareness, Mental Health Resources, Self-Defense Basics, and more. Spots are limited and pre-registration is required.
“She’s Ready” will take place on Thursday, August 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The Southeast Missouri Regional Jazz Orchestra will present its annual benefit concert on August 2.
Founded in 2000, the orchestra is comprised of area music educators, professional musicians, and talented high school and college students. This big band plays a wide variety of music including jazz standards, Latin favorites, Rock n Roll, and Pop Hits...something for all ages to enjoy. All proceeds from the concert will support performance opportunities for the Southeast Marching Band’s fall season.
The Southeast Missouri Regional Jazz Orchestra concert will take place on Saturday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bedell Performance Hall on SEMO’s River Campus. Tickets available online or at the box office.
The Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Department will host Riverfront Yoga each Saturday through September 27.
Fitness instructors will lead a yoga flow built for all levels and ages. No experience is required, and modifications will be offered. Attendees should bring a towel, a mat, and water.
Riverfront Yoga will take place this Saturday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at Riverfront Park in downtown Cape. No registration is required, but there is a small fee of $4 to attend.

The Saint Francis Auxiliary will help area children get ready for school with a “Back to School Supply Drive” from July 30-August 7.
Community members can drop off school supplies at marked donation barrels throughout Saint Francis Medical Center and offsite Saint Francis locations.
The “Back to School Supply Drive” will take place Wednesday, July 30, through Thursday, August 7.

The United Way of Southeast Missouri will help area families get their children ready for the upcoming school year with its annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive on August 2.
Walmart stores in Cape Girardeau, Fredericktown, Jackson, Kennett, Malden, Perryville, Poplar Bluff, and Sikeston are partnering with the United Way, and school representatives will be on hand to encourage donations. Locations will have designated donation boxes and carts, and some locations will have buses parked in front to collect supplies.
“Stuff the Bus” will take place Saturday, August 2, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The SEMO Iris Society will host its annual sale and auction on Sunday, August 3.
The annual sale of iris rhizomes will start at noon, followed by auction of newer varieties at about 1 p.m. Most varieties will be tall bearded irises.
Bring questions you might have about growing irises. The public is invited, and this is an excellent opportunity to buy irises for your home landscape at bargain prices.
