State Representative Kathryn Swan, R-Cape Girardeau, has received the Bill Emerson Award for her work in the local community.

The Bill Emerson Award is presented annually to individuals selected by the Cape Girardeau County Republican Central Committee who have ‘sought to carry on the citizen-based Bill Emerson legacy through their personal efforts.’ Swan is the 19th recipient, and she received the award at the Cape County Lincoln Day celebration.

According to a press release, Swan has spent her years volunteering and working locally, and at the state level. She has served on many boards, including the Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation, United Way of Southeast Missouri, City of Cape Planning & Zoning Commission, Cape School Board, Missouri Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Missouri NFIB Leadership Council, and many more.

Swan says her ‘most unique’ appointment was to the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education. As the chair, she helped create the Cape College Center, formerly known as the Cape Girardeau Partnership for Higher Education.

In her acceptance speech at the Lincoln Day celebration, Swan said she was ‘honored to receive the award and pleased to accept it on behalf of all those in attendance for their own commitment to the foundational principles of faith, free, opportunity and personal responsibility.’
