Governor Jay Nixon announced new educational opportunities for workers at the SRG Global plant at a stop in Portageville on Thursday. The Community College Job Retention Training Program is designed to provide training assistance for businesses for the retention of jobs.

SRG Global, an auto supplier that has a plant in Portageville, and Three Rivers Community College will both be a part of this new opportunity, along with the rest of Missouri’s community colleges.

At a press conference, Nixon discussed his hope that the program will help SRG and Missouri remain competitive in the global economy.

“So we had to instill in every Missourian an understanding that the new competition we were in was an international worldwide competition, and all of us needed to step up our game and be ready for that,” Nixon said.

Governor Nixon also emphasized the importance of education in Missouri’s continued success.

“The best economic development tool that exists in our world is education,” Nixon said. “Because businesses will go where strong and trained workers are, and as long as we continue to do that we’re going to continue to move forward.”

Three-hundred-and-fifty of SRG Global’s employees will be trained in mechanical and electrical skills, quality, safety, and team building with the Community College Job Retention Training Program.
