MoDOT Reopens Chester Bridge Saturday Morning Following Successful Inspections

Lindsey Grojean/KRCU

The Missouri Department of Transportation has reopened Chester Bridge to traffic earlier than anticipated.

The bridge passed inspections by MoDOT crews this morning and opened at 10 a.m., based on Mississippi River levels and projections.

According to a press release on Wednesday, the district’s bridge engineer planned on holding inspections this morning and opening the bridge to traffic this afternoon.

The bridge had been closed since Sunday, June 2 due to high river levels. It sits between Perry County and Randolph County in Illinois and is the only connection for motorists across the Mississippi River between Cape Girardeau and St. Louis. An estimated 6,500 people cross Chester Bridge each day.
