MoDOT To Make Traffic Signal Change At US Route 61 Intersection In Jackson

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will soon make changes on an intersection signal in Jackson.

A flashing yellow arrow will be added for left-turning traffic at Walton Drive and US Route 61, near Walmart. When flashing, the yellow arrow will direct drivers to yield to oncoming traffic. When solid, drivers should prepare to stop or complete their turn if they are in the intersection. Solid green arrows will also be displayed when left-turning traffic has the right-of-way.

MoDOT expects the change to increase efficiency during off-peak traffic times, resulting in fewer red lights on US 61 and an increase in traffic flow.

Senior Traffic Studies Specialist Jake Butler says flashing yellow arrows have been installed in many Missouri intersection signals, and have received positive reviews from local motorists.

“Across the state, we have had great success with flashing yellow arrows,” Butler says. “Motorists appreciate the increased efficiency and eased congestion.”

Work is slated to begin the week of April 8, with the flashing yellow arrow in operation by the end of that week. Traffic will be minimally impacted while the change is taking place.
