Left Of The Dial #67 - Not A Valentine's Show

It was tempting to try to do a Valentine's Day themed episode this weekend as the holiday can be rather fun and is ripe for parody and ridicule, but I ultimately decided that pretty much all pop songs were about folks who have found themselves in some lovelorn mess, anyway, and that there wouldn't be much point. So I tossed a few stomach churning chalky candies its way and pretty much approached this week's show as business as usual.

Emmy The Great is a musician I became rather enamored with when I heard her song "Easter Parade." So I was excited to learn that Emma-Lee Moss has new music on the way, an album titled Second Love

Star Wars Headspace is an electronic music album inspired by and utilizing sounds from the Star Wars universe. Rick Rubin produced it, and it features tracks from Flying Lotus, Röyksopp, and Baauer, among others. It's set to be relesed on February 19th.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised when an older band puts out an amazing song, but I think I've been burned by bands I loved as a teenager too many times to escape such moments of serendipity. Violent Femmes have a new album due on March 4th titled We Can Do Anything, and is "Memory" from that ever amazing.

Finally, the thing I love most from my discoveries of the past week comes from commedian and musician Allie Goertz, who last December released a concept album about Rick and Morty. If you don't know, Rick and Morty is an amazing sci-fi comedy series that airs on [adult swim]. Knowledge of the series is probably going to help you love the music, but Goertz's sense of a pop hook makes these songs as enjoyable as anything you're bound to hear on top-40 radio.

Left of the Dial airs Friday nights from 9-11 and Saturdays from noon-2 on KRCU.
