The coaching staff for the 2020 OVC Tournament Champion womens basketball program will look a little bit different on the sidelines this season. Head Coach Rekha Patterson has announced an entire new staff of assistant coaches joining the Redhawks program for the 2021-22 season.
Jasmine Newsome joins the Redhawks as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator after spending the last six seasons as an assistant at fellow OVC institution, UT Martin. At UTM, Newsome helped the program win three OVC regular season titles, along with four 20-win seasons.
Newsome also played four years at UT Martin where she scored over 2,500 career points and led the Skyhawks to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
David Midlick most recently served as the head coach at OVC member Austin Peay for six seasons, guiding the Governors to six-consecutive OVC Tournament appearances during his time at the helm, including 18 regular season wins in 2019-20.
In her seven seasons as associate head coach at Kansas Wesleyan, Carolyn Jenkins worked with the post players and also served as the head coach of the junior varsity team. She helped the Coyotes record four 20-win seasons.
In college, Jenkins was a four-year player at University of Kansas who scored more than 1,700 points and grabbed over 700 rebounds leading the Jayhawks to back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 appearances.
