SEMO Baseball gave the Redhawks Athletics department its fourth Ohio Valley Conference Championship of the school year, clinching the regular season title last Friday with a win over UT Martin. This week, Andy Sawyers was named OVC Coach of the Year and left-hander Dylan Dodd was voted Pitcher of the Year to highlight SEMO’s 2021 All-Conference baseball honors.
Sawyers' club enters the OVC Tournament as the #1 seed and ranks tied for first in the OVC in fielding percentage (.973), first in saves (13), first in sacrifice bunts (29), second in wins (27), second in earned run average (5.06) and third in opposing batting average (.271). The Redhawks won eight of nine conference series this season en route to a conference title, despite being predicted to finish fifth in the league’s preseason poll.
Senior southpaw Dylan Dodd leads the OVC in ERA (2.36), innings pitched (84), strikeouts (102) and wins (8), and ranks second in opposing batting average (.208). He ranks 18th in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio, and top 30 in two other statistics.
Shortstop Tyler Wilber earned All-OVC Second Team honors after batting .400 on the season, and right-handed pitchers Kyle Miller and Collin Wilma both earned All-Freshman Team accolades.
