Two-Minute Drill: Redhawks Women Capture 2021 OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship

SEMO Athletics

The Redhawks have added some more hardware to the trophy case this season! The SEMO women's track & field team won the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship last Saturday with an impressive 148 point performance.

The outdoor Championship is the 10th in program history for the SEMO women and first title since 2014.

Head coach Eric Crumpecker was tabbed the OVC Women's Coach of the Year. It marked his first career honor on the women's outdoor side and the ninth OVC Women's Coach of the Year for SEMO.

Kaitlyn Shea was named the OVC Women's Track Athlete of the Year, finishing third in the 1,500 meter race and first in the 5,000 meter and steeplechase races.

Meanwhile, the SEMO men finished second overall with 172 points, coming just short  behind host Eastern Illinois. SEMO freshman Donald Hatfield Jackson was awarded OVC Men's Athlete of the Championship at the conclusion of the meet.

Hatfield Jackson won gold in the high jump and long jump, and earned silver in the triple jump, totaling 28 points for the Redhawks. His high jump mark broke a 37-year-old school record, previously held by Jim Lohr.

In addition to their strong championship performances, the several Redhawks have also qualified to compete in the NCAA West: Kaitlyn Shea in Steeplechase, Terrico Garrett in the 800 meters, Dylan Clark in the hammer throw, Josiah Kilgore in the javelin, and Donald Hatfield Jackson in both the high jump and long jump.
