Two-Minute Drill: Shea and Bryant Earn OVC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors
Kaitlyn Shea and Nick Bryant were both awarded Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors for their performances last weekend.
Shea was named the OVC Co-Female Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season while Bryant was selected as the OVC Co-Male Track Athlete of the Week.
Shea set the Redhawks indoor 3,000 meters record with a career-best time of 9:32.79 for second overall at the Hoosier Hills Invite last Friday.
Shea, who previously surpassed the SEMO 5,000 meters indoor record at the Indiana Relays, etched her name in the record books once again while improving upon her top time in the OVC this season. Laura Byrne previously held the 3,000 meters record, which she had since 1989.
The honor marks the third career weekly laurel for Shea.
Bryant took first in the 400 meters at the Hoosier Hills Invite last Friday in a personal-best time of 48.47. The mark ranks first in the OVC this season. The OVC weekly honor is the first in Bryant's career.
In 2020, SEMO has been awarded eight OVC Indoor Athlete of the Week honors.
SEMO track & field will be competing at home today in the Redhawks Open. The event is free and open to the public, held at the SEMO Student Recreation Center. Field events start at 3:30 p.m. followed by running events at 6:30 p.m.
Next week, the Redhawks will travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for the 2020 OVC Indoor Track & Field Championship, Feb. 26-27.
