Once again this week, Redhawk student-athletes collected conference honors for outstanding athletic performances. Five different student-athletes collected honors this week.
Katie Wegmann, a redshirt junior, won first place at the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle Invitational, for her first career top cross country finish. She paced SEMO’s women's cross country team to a third place finish. The Redhawks cross country teams will compete in the OVC Cross Country Championship on Monday.
Junior men’s basketball guard Eric Reed, Jr. was named the league's Newcomer of the Week. Reed helped lead the Redhawks to a pair of home wins last week against two of the top five teams in the conference. The Redhawk men will clinch a spot in next week’s OVC Basketball Tournament with just one victory in their final two road games this weekend.
Austin Blazevic and Dylan Dodd helped lead the Redhawks baseball team to a series win at mid-major powerhouse South Alabama last weekend. They swept the OVC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. SEMO is on the road this weekend for a four-game series at Arkansas, which is ranked second in the nation.
And finally, Anna Kaziska, a junior gymnast, was awarded MIC Performance of the Week, after winning individual event titles on floor and beam in a win over rival Lindenwood. SEMO gymnastics is back in Cape for a double-meet weekend on Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Show Me Center. Tickets for both meets are available online and at walk-up.
