Three Redhawks Earn All-OVC Baseball Honors

Southeast Athletics

Southeast Missouri right fielder Justin Dirden, second baseman Trevor Ezell and right-handed pitcher Carlos Vega were named to the 2018 All-Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Team, the league announced Tuesday. Dirden, Ezell and Vega all earned first-team honors.

Dirden leads the team in total bases (136), walks (29), slugging percentage (.680), RBI (66) and home runs (15). He has played in every game during his first year with the Redhawks.

Ezell leads Southeast in hits (86), batting average (.389), runs (49), triples (4), on base percentage (.449) and stolen bases (11). He collected his third All-OVC award after landing a spot on the league's All-Freshman Team in 2015 and securing second-team accolades in 2016.

Vega leads the team in ERA (2.49), wins (7), innings pitched (65.0), strikeouts (74), and opposing batting average (.218). His 2.49 ERA and 52 hits allowed both ranked second-best in the OVC after the regular season.

The Redhawks have won every game that Vega has started on the mound this season, including the first round game of the OVC Tournament Wednesday night. Southeast, which earned the #2 seed in the conference, defeated #7 Murray State 5-2. You can follow the Redhawks progress in the OVC Tournament by visiting GoSoutheast.com.

Meanwhile, Redhawks softball center fielder Rachel Anderson was named to the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Mideast Region Team last week. The sophomore was a second-team selection for the second straight year.

A First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference pick, Anderson ranked among the OVC's top five leaders in batting average (3rd), on-base percentage (3rd), hits (5th) and triples (1st). Anderson ended the season on a 16-game hitting streak, the longest in the OVC.
