Almost 17,000 Pounds Of Non-Degradable Items Diverted From Landfills Through Jackson’s E-Cycle Event

The city of Jackson held their annual E-Cycle event on Saturday and have deemed it successful, measuring over 16,869 pounds of unusable electronic items collected throughout Cape Girardeau County.

In its ninth year, the event is an effort to reduce solid waste disposal costs and to recycle appliances and metal objects. According to a press release from the city, more than 24 pallets of non-degradable items were diverted from landfills. Residents brought items ranging from lawn mowers to chain saws, bicycles to air conditioners, and DVD players to vacuum cleaners.

These materials are now under the care of Midwest Recycling Center in Park Hills, as they practice waste management approved by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The center also ensures that hard drives from computers are shredded or erased by using U.S. Department of Defense-approved software.

The Jackson Recycling Center continues to accept electronic materials daily through their regular drop-off program.
