Tuesday, Jan. 15 marked the end of the 2018-2019 deer-hunting season in Missouri. Between the 114 counties in the state, 290,339 deer were harvested, according to a preliminary report by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).
The MDC says that number was higher than last year’s harvest by 5,862 deer.
Of the deer harvested during the 2018-2019 season, 136,776 were antlered bucks, 30,116 were button bucks, and 123,447 were does.
The deer harvest summaries for local counties totaled: Cape, 2,951; Perry, 2,940; Scott, 765; and Bollinger, 4,237.
Eight firearms-related hunting incidents were reported during the fall deer and turkey hunting seasons. Three of those were fatal incidents, and of the five non-fatal incidents, four were self-inflicted.
Jan. 15 also marked the end of fall archery turkey hunting season. 2,095 turkeys were harvested, according to preliminary data by the MDC.
