City Of Jackson Eyes Development Of A Dog Park In Litz Park

Lindsey Grojean/KRCU

The City of Jackson is currently working on forming a committee to start the planning process of a dog park. Shane Anderson, parks and recreation director, said this is a project the city has been hoping to work on for years, and it has now been marked as a top priority project.

Anderson says the decision on where the park will be built might change, but the city is leaning toward placing it in Litz Park, which is one of five parks in Jackson.

“In all of our parks, there’s a lot of dog walkers,” says Anderson. “But Litz Park is really, very popular. It operates almost as a dog park right now, a lot of dogs through there.”

Anderson says there has been no decision on design and layout, but he expects the park to have two separate sections for large and small dogs.

“We’ll probably have some neat watering items, as well as some play features in the dog park,” he says.

The committee will be formed at the parks and recreation board meeting on Nov. 12, and the planning process will begin following the meeting.
