There will be a sea of purple outside the Arena Building Friday. The 15th annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life will be taking place there at 6 p.m.
Event co-chair Joyce Penny has a very personal connection to cancer. She lost her mom, brother, and father to cancer.
Penny said more than 40 teams will participate in the relay and this year’s fundraising goal is $194,000.
“It usually starts at dusk and it goes to the morning,” Penny said. “That represents the cancer survivor getting their diagnosis. Then you keep walking through the night even though you’re tired, just like the cancer survivor would want to stop this journey because it so rough that they have to keep persevering then the dawn comes, and they are in remission or cured.”
There will be many activities during the event like a hot air balloon glow, hayrides and plenty of food, among other attractions.
