Work is now underway to replace aging bridges along Interstate 55 at the Exit 99 interchange - also known as Center Junction - located between Cape Girardeau and Jackson.

According to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation, the repairs over Highway 61 will begin with the highway itself, which will be reduced Tuesday, July 23 through Monday, July 29 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. daily. During this period, interstate traffic won’t be impacted.

Starting July 29, crews will start working on the southbound lane of I-55 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday, Aug. 1. They will move to the northbound lane the following week from Monday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 8.

As MoDOT crews work on Center Junction, they will work on alternating lanes, with each reduced to a 14-foot width restriction.

The department urges motorists to use caution when travelling along Highway 61 and I-55, and to plan ahead if you regularly pass through the area.
