Cape Girardeau Police Department To Hold Public Forums On Body Cams

The Cape Girardeau Police Department will soon be hosting public forums on their upcoming implementation of body-worn cameras. A program they’ve been working on for a few years, the cameras have been partially funded through a federal grant.

Cpl. Ryan Droege, crime analyst for the department, says they’re hosting the forum to give the public a general overview of the program, and attempt to get everyone on the same page.

“We want people to understand what our cameras are, how we’re going to be using them, what our policies are going to be,” says Cpl. Droege. “And then for them to ask us questions, how it’s going to help them help the city.”

Droege says after contracts are sorted out between legal departments, the program should be implemented within the next few months.

The forums will take place on May 24 at 7 p.m. and June 2 at 10 a.m. in the Police Department’s community room.
