The Cape Girardeau Police Department recently added Dallas, a new K9 officer to its force. He completed an 8-week training program with his handler, officer Eric Steiner, and started patrol last week. The two will continue maintenance training once a week to keep up with their certification.
Public information officer Richard McCall says Dallas is filling the role of recently retired K9, Reno, and they’re looking to do the same for K9Shupa.
“He should be retiring I believe this year. And then we're going to try to put on two more to give us a total of 4 K9’s working with 4 platoons- A, B, C, and D- so we’ll have a K9 on at all times,” said McCall. “It’ll be a good thing for the city of Cape Girardeau.”
Dallas will be handler defense, and narcotics detection and tracking certified.
