MoDOT: Slow Down in Work Zones

Google

The Missouri Department of Transportation is gearing up for the summer road repair season. Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution while travelling through work zones to ensure the safety of workers.

“Motorists really need to slow down and watch out anytime they approach a work zone,” said MoDOT Community Relations Coordinator, Linda Horn. Drivers should watch for lights and road sign and be cautious of upcoming work zones.

Not all work zones are the same. Road construction areas can be day to day projects or they can last a couple days. Drivers on the road should take precautions when entering work zones. The state law says that when drivers see construction and workers on the side of the road that they need to slow down and move over.

MoDOT is constantly looking into new ways to make work zones more visible. Flashing lights, signs and warning sirens are what drivers should look out for.

A simple way to know what areas of the roads are being worked on is by visiting the MoDOT website at modot.org. Also, a work zone app is available for passengers and allows them to see where work zones are located.

According to Missouri law, drivers must slow down or change lanes when approaching law enforcement and emergency response vehicles on the side of the road, as well as parked MoDOT vehicles with flashing white and amber lights.
