The Cape Girardeau Public Library will host Human Trafficking: The Basics — Anti-Trafficking Training on September 18.
Join us for a special presentation by the Coalition Against Trafficking and Exploitation, as they discuss the most common survivor demographics, vulnerable populations, and key factors that heighten the risk of trafficking or exploitation to exist. Join us to keep yourself informed and help keep our community safe.
Human trafficking exists in every region of the United States, as well as around the world. Human trafficking puts individuals and communities' wellbeing, health, and safety at risk. According to the National Hotline Against Trafficking and Exploitation, Missouri is ranked #4 in the nation, based on state population for human trafficking cases reported.
Human Trafficking: The Basics — Anti-trafficking Training is designed to establish basic level knowledge to understand human trafficking, while utilizing a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach.
This course will:
- Define human trafficking criteria
- Discuss sex trafficking
- Discuss labor trafficking
- Define exploitation criteria
- Discuss sexual exploitation
- Discuss: What to do if you suspect trafficking or exploitation
- Help you understand Survivor vs. Victim Language
- Help you understand Survivor Demographics
- Identify Common Vulnerable Populations and Risk Factors
- Identify the signs of human trafficking and exploitation
- Help you understand the barriers of identification
- Identify available resources for referrals
- Help you distinguish common misconceptions
- Help you understand the prevalence of human trafficking
- Identify common barriers for survivors
- Increase your knowledge of human trafficking
- Increase your understanding of how and why human trafficking occurs
