There are many significant Civil Rights figures, but few are as recognized as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the work he did reshaping America’s culture. If he were alive, he would have celebrated his 91st birthday on January 15. One wonders what other great speeches and accomplishments we’ve missed since his untimely death 50 years ago.
Of course, the work didn’t end, and those who have picked up Dr. King’s banner also deserve recognition. You can celebrate him and his achievements during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Dinner at Southeast Missouri State University on January 29 at 5 p.m. in the Show Me Center. We honor Dr. King for his work toward racial equality and justice for all people and for his dedication to non- violence.
