All About Cape: Enjoy Fall at the Nature Center

Autumn is an ideal time to reconnect with nature, especially since three-digit temperatures kept most of us indoors for part of August.

The Conservation Nature Center at Cape County Park North is an ideal setting. This month, the center is using natural materials to create art, a practice that dates back more than 40,000 years to the first cave paintings.  In fact, drawing goes back 73,000 years, as proven by a recent discovery in South Africa of a crayon-like drawing on a rock.  Ironically, the drawing uses crossed lines like a modern hashtag, although no one knows what the ancient symbol means.

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center’s Fall Nature Mandala class continues the tradition of using rocks to make art, along with sticks, flowers and leaves on Saturday, October 12 from 1 to 4 p.m.  Let your creativity soar as you Paint on Leaves class on Wednesday, October 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Cape Fear Con debuts at the Osage Centre on October 18-19, 2019! Cape Fear Con features 2 exciting days of frightful artists, thrilling events, terrifying cosplay, and dozens of tables of merchandise for fans to enjoy.
