All About Cape: Getting Ready for Fall

Visit Cape

Labor Day is just around the corner, and that means summer is coming to an end.  Cape Splash is open a few more days this season, so if you are feeling the urge to barrel down a waterslide or just relax and float around the lazy river you better do it this week.  Fall will bring a whole new set of events to enjoy.

The action kicks off on Labor Day with the Fort D Living History Demonstrations Fall Muster.  From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, September 2, Cape’s only surviving Civil War fort turns into a historic encampment much like it was during the Battle of Cape Girardeau.  If you are interested in learning what happened during that battle, take the Civil War Driving Tour through Cape.  Download a brochure at VisitCape.com/Discover.

If you are looking for some sports action, this is the perfect weekend.  The Men’s Slow Pitch Northern National Softball Tournament will take the field at the Shawnee Park Sports Complex on Friday, August 30 through Sunday, September 1.   Some of softball’s most elite teams will be there, playing their hearts out to clinch the championship.  I invite you to stop by and cheer them on.  It is a wonderful way to spend the day with friends and family.

And now that summer sports are winding down, it is time for a fall favorite:  football!  The Southeast Redhawk’s will host their first home game on Thursday, August 29 against Southern Illinois.  Houck Stadium is sure to be filled with hundreds of fans cheering every touchdown.  Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
