All About Cape: Here Come the Corvettes!

It's the first week of school for Southeast Missouri State University students, and I want to wish you a great semester.  If this is your first year on campus, I invite you to get out and explore your new community. Stop by the VisitCape office to say hello, and you just may see a t-shirt, mug, or something in the gift shop you'd like!  There are a lot of things to see and do here -from a vibrant downtown area to gorgeous hiking and biking trails. Take a sneak peak of local attractions at VisitCape.com/Discover.

A great place to check out the local vibe is at a special downtown event on Tuesday, August 27th at 3 p.m.  The Corvette Caravan takes place every five years, and they are stopping on Main Street in Cape Girardeau overnight. Essentially, the caravan is a collection of vehicles from all over the country, and they're heading to the National Corvette Museum to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

If you're wondering why people love Corvettes so much, it's the speed and sleek look.  According to Harbin Automotive, a 1968 model LT-2 Corvette could do zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds.  A more modern version, the 2018 Corvette Stingray, has been known to drive 53 miles per hour in reverse.

You'll be able to see a wide variety of these sports cars up close.  The caravan will be on display downtown, with vehicles dating as far back as the 1950s parked next to the latest models just off the assembly line.  And, it's not only a car show; it's a celebration!  There will be live music, interactive car-themed exhibits, and much more.  Every member of the family will enjoy this evening downtown, whether they're car enthusiasts or not.
