Tunes At Twilight Returns On Friday

iLuvLocalPlaces.com

Downtown Cape Girardeau will once again be filled with the sound of music this spring when Tunes At Twilight will returns on Friday at 7 p.m.

The concert series is held for six weeks every spring and fall. Old Town Cape executive director Marla Mills says the concert series was started over ten years ago to encourage locals to come together for a fun and relaxing evening. These days, Old Town Cape hopes to maintain Tunes At Twilight as a family-friendly event.

“While they’re there, they just sit back. It’s very relaxed, it’s very social. People meet up with their friends,” Mills said. “A lot of people bring their families. They have picnics. Very, very relaxed and informal.”

Each concert lasts about one hour, and is held at the Common Pleas Courthouse Gazebo at the corner of Lorimier and Broadway. Concerts begin at 7 p.m. every Friday until June 21st.

Mills encourages people to come and enjoy the music while connecting with their community.

“It’s a great community event,” she said. “Our purpose in starting it so many years ago was to bring people downtown, but it’s really become more than just a concert. It’s a gathering place for people on Friday night, it’s the end of the week kind of thing. People during the summer look forward to it. It’s just a real special community event.”

Tunes At Twilight has won several awards for its role in the community. Mills says on average, more than four hundred people attended each concert last year.

Tunes At Twilight concerts are free, and the event is open to the public.

The artist kicking off the series will be Donna Herula playing country and modern blues.
