For the first time in school history, SEMO Women’s Tennis is Ohio Valley Conference Champions! SEMO earned the OVC Regular-Season title with a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play.
The Redhawks will be the #1 seed this weekend at the OVC Tournament when they take on #4 Jacksonville State (9-9) Saturday afternoon in the Semifinals. Doubles will open the semifinals matchup at 2:30 p.m., CT at the Wesselman Tennis Center in Evansville, Indiana.
The Redhawks 14 wins in 2021 is their highest win total in 28 years as the 1993 SEMO team finished the season with a mark of 17-6.
SEMO has won the doubles point in every conference dual this season and has jumped out to a 1-0 start in 14 of its 18 matches in 2021.
In 2021,the Redhawks are 14-3 in doubles matches against OVC opponents.
The top doubles team of Romana Tarajova and Kseniya Zonovawas perfect in league play with a 6-0 mark. The duo is 10-2 overall in 2021 and are currently on an eight-match win streak, playing exclusively at the no. 1 lineup slot.
In singles, the Redhawks have four players with double-digit wins.
Vivian Lai, a sophomore from Taipei, Taiwan, was perfect for the Redhawks during league matches, finishing 7-0 at the fifth slot. She enters the weekend on a 10-match win streak and was named the OVC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.
With a win Saturday, SEMO will face the winner of #2 Austin Peay and #3 Murray State on Sunday in the 2021 OVC Championship Final. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
