Two-Minute Drill: Thompson Named to Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List

Southeast Athletics

Her Hoop Stats named Southeast Missouri senior guard Tesia Thompson to the 2021 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Preseason Watch List.

Thompson, who hails from Memphis, Tennessee, was named Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference for the third-straight year earlier this month.

Last season, Thompson averaged 19.7 points and 7.7 rebounds in 30.6 minutes per game. She ranked nationally in free throw attempts (14th, 206), free throws made (12th, 160) and points per game (17th, 19.7). Thompson was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team and earned tournament MVP honors after recording 93 points, 30 rebounds and 18 assists in three postseason contests.

To be eligible for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." This year's winner will be announced in late March.

Hammon was a three-time All-American during her career at Colorado State and led the Rams to the Sweet 16 in 1999. Hammon played in the NBA from 1999 to 2014 and was a six-time All-Star and a two-time All-WNBA First-Team honoree. She then became just the second female coach in NBA history when she began coaching for the San Antonio Spurs in 2014.

Thompson and UT Martin's Chelsey Perry represent the OVC on this year's watch list.
