Two-Minute Drill: OVC Postpones Fall Sport Competitions and Championships

SEMO Athletics
Statement from SEMO Director of Athletics, Brady Barke: OVC Postponement of Fall Sport Competitions and Championships

The Ohio Valley Conference Board of Presidents announced last Friday that fall competition and championships in the sports of football, men's and women's cross country, women's soccer and women's volleyball will be postponed due to the concerns and uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

In making its determination, the Board asked the conference membership to develop plans for conference competition and championships in the spring semester for the impacted sports.

OVC football-playing institutions do have the opportunity to play up to four non-conference scheduled games, but the SEMO Football program will not be playing this Fall and will instead wait for the rescheduled Spring football season.

The plans to play scheduled winter and spring sports remains unaffected at this time.

Director of Athletics Brady Barke expressed his disappointment for Redhawk student-athletes and coaches as a result of the decision. For several months, the Athletic Department worked tirelessly to find to give student-athletes an opportunity to safely compete this Fall. The focus will now shift to attempting to find a way to safely return to competition later this year.

SEMO Athletics enters the new school year as defending conference champions in five different sports and finished the shortened school year sitting in the first place in the OVC Commissioner’s Cup all-sports standings.
