Two-Minute Drill: A Message from Director of Athletics, Brady Barke

Southeast Athletics

The wait is over!!! The 2019-20 academic year is finally here and your Redhawks are officially back in action.

The Women's Soccer team started off the season with a victory at home over Southern Mississippi on Sunday, and just last night we had a packed house at Houck Field for the War for the Wheel football game against our oldest rival SIU. Volleyball and cross country open their seasons today on the road.

As we set our focus on this school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what was a truly special year last season. Football won its first-ever FCS Football playoff game – right here in front of our home fans. The Softball program won the OVC regular season and tournament championships, earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years. We successfully hosted OVC cross country and outdoor track & field championships.

25 student-athletes earned OVC all-conference honors, 10 student-athletes were named to All-America teams, four student-athletes earned OVC Player of the Year awards, and Linebacker Zach Hall earned the Buck Buchanan National Defensive Player of the Year Award.

In the classroom, our student-athletes led the way in the entire OVC with 37 Medal of Honor recipients, given to student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and a league-leading 153 student-athletes on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.  67.7 percent of the entire student-athlete population earned a 3.0 GPA or better.

As we look to build upon the momentum of last year, 2019-20 could very well prove to be the best year in recent memory. We hope you’ll come alongside us and support our student-athletes this year.

I look forward to seeing you in the stands…Go Redhawks!
