The American Volleyball Coaches Association has named the Southeast Missouri volleyball team recipients of the annual AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2017-2018 season. This is the 11th consecutive year the Redhawks have received this recognition.
Southeast volleyball registered a 3.30 cumulative GPA this past academic year.
Head coach Julie Yankus said she is very proud of the student-athletes and their academic accomplishments, praising their dedication to their academic endeavors as they work hard in pursuit of their career goals.
The AVCA Team Academic Award was created to honor collegiate and high school volleyball teams who display excellence in the classroom. During the school year, teams must maintain a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 GPA on a 5.0 scale.
In all, seven of the 12 Ohio Valley Conference teams were recognized by the AVCA for their efforts in the classroom this past year.
Southeast is set to open its season at home against Missouri Baptist in an exhibition match on August 13 in Houck Field House. SEMO will then host an intrasquad Redhawk Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 18 before officially opening the 2018 season at Troy University.
