Clean-energy advocates are making the case for a Missouri energy cooperative to seek federal funds to build clean power generation in New Madrid County that would improve air quality and help Magnitude 7 Metals. Gov. Mike Parson vetoed a zero-interest loan to help M7M meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency air-quality standards.

In addition to the government’s goal of an environmentally conscious future, many Americans have begun their own search into clean energy alternatives, especially amidst rising gas prices. The Southeast Metropolitan Planning Organization also began its own project to incorporate more electric vehicles into Southeast Missouri's infrastructure plans.

The ‘Neighborhood Solar Project’ objective is to collaborate with community organizations like the University to host solar generation. The project began by constructing solar canopies in the Show Me Center Parking lot, designed to produce solar energy for homes in the area. It is the largest such program in the state.
