Report: Nearly 2 Million in MO are Medically Disenfranchised
A new report looking at the medically underserved and disenfranchised population in the United States says that nearly 2 million Missourians and more than 100 million people across the country lack access to primary care, double the number in 2014. The report says community health centers can close the gap. Only one in 10 of the medically disenfranchised lack insurance. The number of health-center patients has grown by 6 million since 2015.

Senate Committee Approves Kagan Nomination
The Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to approve the nomination of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. The 13-6 vote sends Kagan's nomination to the full Senate. Lindsey Graham was the only Republican on the panel to vote in favor of Kagan.

Jacob Chansley recieved one of the longest sentences handed down to a U.S. Capitol rioter. He has been freed from prison and sent to a reentry center until late May.

Taiwan's military trains female reservist soldiers for the first time in its history
The effort to include women comes as the Asian island revamps its defenses against China. While Taiwan does have a full-time military, it's only 190,000 people compared to its 1.6 million reservists.

The Tonga volcano caused an oil spill on Peru's coast. Fishermen are protesting
Because of waves from Saturday's eruption, an estimated 6,000 barrels of oil were spilled near Peru's main refinery on the coast in an area rich in marine biodiversity.
Trump's lawyers urge judge to dismiss federal election interference case
The former president's lawyers are arguing that the Justice Department is criminalizing "core political speech" protected by the First Amendment and selectively targeting him for prosecution.
Poverty Rate Unchanged, But Still Historically High
The government says that the poverty rate for 2011 was 15 percent, essentially unchanged from the year before. That still means that more than 46 million people lived below the poverty line last year. According to one economist, "the bad news isn't as bad as it has been."
