A World War II veteran who served in the Navy Seabees received a flag that flew over the U.S. capitol on Wednesday.

Eighty-eight year old GlennonWelker couldn’t take an honor flight to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. So on Wednesday, U.S. Congressman Jason Smith brought a flag to him that flew over the capitol on Veterans  Day.

Smith said it’s a privilege to present the flag to veterans like Welker.

“This is a gentleman who has honorably served our country, but because of his health, was not able to ever take the honor flight,” Smith said. “We wanted to personally deliver this flag to him and honor his service.”

Glennon Welker lives at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Also in attendance on Wednesday -- his ninety five year old brother Wilbert Welker, who is also a World War II veteran.
